As it’s World Coconut Day (yep, apparently that’s a thing), we thought we’d make a list of our top five coconut beers:
Wander Beyond | Coconut Crater
An imperial stout infused with 50kg of toasted coconuts? Yes please! They also add cacao and vanilla, which makes this 12%er a rich, delicious treat of a beer. Outside of the actual beer, Wander Beyond are making the most beautiful artwork at the moment, too, and this is no exception. A thing of beauty, both inside and out, you can judge this book by its cover.
Maui Brewing Co. | Coconut Hiwa Porter
Want something lighter on the coconut hit, but with coffee notes instead? Try this option from Hawaii’s largest craft brewery. Hand-toasted coconut and hints of mocha make this a much more subtle coconutty option (and only 6% ABV.).
North Brewing Co. | Full Fathom Five
Sticking with the ‘coconut + coffee = great beer’ theme, next up is this one from North Brewing Co. in Leeds. If you’ve read our old recipes, you’ll know we’ve had a soft spot for FF5 for a couple of years now. You’ve heard of dry hopping? This one is dry coconutted, with the addition of single origin Rwandan coffee beans from North Star roasters.
Evil Twin Brewing | Even More Coco Jesus
Q: So what else works well with coconut? A: Maple syrup. If you like your impy stouts rich, sweet, and complex (and boozy!), this 12%er’s from Evil Twin is for you. Layer upon layer of subtle coconut, rich coffee, and a maple finish, it’s a decadent treat for your mouth.
Neptune Brewery | On The Bounty
When you think of coconut, there’s one chocolate bar that springs to mind, and Liverpool’s Neptune Brewery have this one covered in delicious beery form. This chocolate and coconut stout is brewed with Sorachi Ace, with cacao nibs and coconut essence added to make it a great choice for those who want more of a coconutty hit.
