You’ve checked out the events happening in the North East, so it’s time to introduce you to some Oktoberfest-inspired beers released by local breweries and others across the UK this autumn. All tasting notes and images/artwork are taken directly from the breweries – let us know your thoughts if you’re trying some!

North East Oktoberfest Beers

Caps Off Brewery That, My Friend (3.0%)

A 3% Pineapple Weiss is Caps Off’s release for Oktoberfest this year. Light golden in appearance, with an aroma of sweet dough, and floral and herb notes. Light-bodied with flavours of delicate pineapple & honey, and a smooth bitterness.

Full Circle Brew Co. X Thornbridge Brewery Oktoberfest (6.0%)

Full Circle’s first ever Oktoberfest Lager is a collaboration with Thornbridge Brewery. This beer is dark, rich and malty. Tasting like beers from some of our favourite German breweries; this is not one to miss.

McColl’s Brewery Fest Lager (5.0%)

A festival lager brewed to celebrate Oktoberfest that combines continental malted barley and classic noble German hops. The result is a darker, richer beer with more pronounced malt flavours. This amber lager offers bready notes, sweetness and toasted malt character in abundance, with a mild hop aroma and a solid supporting bitterness.

S43 Brewery Hefe (5.5%)

S43 have brewed a traditional German Hefeweizen recipe with Pilsner malt, wheat and just a touch of Vienna for a warm toasty note. Fermented with an authentic German hefeweizen yeast to provide tons of banana and clove esters. It pours hazy and is bursting with fruit and spicy aromas with a thick white head and a spritzy level of carbonation.

UK Oktoberfest Beers

Abbeydale Brewery Oktoberfest Festbier (5.0%)

A new addition to the Sheffield brewery’s Brewers’ Emporium range, this Oktoberfest release is balanced, clean and crisp, with a rich, bread aroma and a delicately spicy noble hop character. It’s rich, burnished copper in colour, full-bodied, yet über quaffable.

Cloudwater Oktoberfest Mega Pack

Manchester’s Cloudwater Brew Co. has released five different beers for Oktoberfest this year, available individually or in a 10-pack if you’d like to try them all. The beers are:

  • Heritage Bock (6.5%) Helles Bock Lager
  • Helles (4.5%) Bavarian-Style Lager
  • Schwarzbier (5.2%) Roasty Black Lager
  • Smoked Pilsner (5.5%) Smoked Lager
  • Vienna Lager (5.0%) Clean & Bready Lager

DEYA X Burum Collective Kellerbier (4.5%)

Brewed in collaboration with Burum Collective, a publication connecting people in the beer, wine and cider industries, with an aim to encourage inclusivity, accessibility and education. In this spirit is an easy drinking Kellerbier. Brewed using a decoction mash and hopped with Saphir for floral top notes and Phoenix for sweet orange. Naturally carbonated to a low level for easy summer sipping.

Donzoko Festbier (5.6%)

The king of Donzoko Lagers. Pilsner malt, a little Vienna and Munich Malts, decoction mash, Tettnang and Blanc hops. A beer worth celebrating with.


Duration Brewing Harvest Bier (5.5%)

As the fields yield their bounty and the leaves turn to autumn, a crisp dry Märzen lets us reminisce the warm summer sun. A rich malt-forward body brings biscuit, caramel and bread to sustain us into the cooler months.

Fierce Beer Heffen Heff (5.0%)

This is a classic Bavarian-style cloudy Hefeweizen. Packed with the usual suspect esters: banana and clove with some brioche and a malty sweet backbone.


Lost and Grounded Festbier (5.6%)

Golden straw in colour, Lost and Grounded’s 2022 Festbier embodies the last of the summer sunshine. The soft, malty backbone of this beer is delicately flavoured with citrus notes from Magnum hops and is reminiscent of marmalade on lightly toasted bread. The addition of the Noble Hop Tettnang lends a subtle spice character before ending with a clean and crisp finish.

Moonwake Beer Co. Weissbier (5.0%)

Moonwake has used classic Munich yeast and a traditional step mash technique to release banana and fruit candy flavours, balanced with clove notes in their Oktoberfest release for this year. Bready notes from the wheat and light fruit flavours from the hops round off this effervescent German beer.


Neptune Brewery Night Rain (5.4%)

This 5 4% Dunkel Weisse – German-style wheat beer has soft breadiness which leads to toasty, caramel flavours. Some gentle clove notes interplay with tasty banana-like sweetness delivering a rich and pleasing drink.

Thornbridge Brewery Feallan (6.0%)

Feallan is a historic and elegant beer style, pouring a divine autumnal colour with a light toasty aroma. The palate brings a complex maltiness, with a robust sweetness which is balanced in the finish by a nice hoppy bitterness.


Westerham Brewery X Melissa Cole Oktoberwest (5.6%)

Brewed in collaboration with beer writer Melissa Cole, Oktoberwest is an elegant German Märzen amber lager with an overall impression of soft, toasted malt notes and a rich, fruity finish from a blend of German noble hops and newer varieties, Mandarina Bavaria and Hallertauer Blanc, to produce a strong lager that is complex yet refreshing.
