Father’s Day Gift Guide 2020

20 ideas for something to get your dad for Father’s Day this year – all from North East businesses.

As you may have noticed, we’re huge advocates of #BuyLocal (check out our directory here for more info). So here’s our round-up of places you can order online from to make sure you’re all set for Father’s Day on Sunday 21st June:

1. Merch from Wylam Brewery

As well as their online beer store, Wylam Brewery has a separate merch store, with limited edition t-shirts, jackets, bags, beanies, and more. Buy online here.

2. A Jim Edwards Print

One of our favourite local artists, with a very distinctive style, Jim Edwards has an amazing selection of artwork featuring local landmarks and bridges. If your budget doesn’t stretch to an original painting or drawing right now, there’s also a great selection of greetings cards. Check out the online shop here.

3. Party Kegs from McColl’s Brewery

With free delivery on orders over £40, you could get a couple of 5 litre party kegs for your dad to enjoy at home (sadly, we can’t promise any sunshine to go with them!). Buy online here.

4. Gig Tickets + Merch from The Cluny

If your dad’s a music fan, there’s bound to be a band or artist he likes that’s graced the stage at The Cluny – why not check out their upcoming gigs for later in the year and book some tickets? They’re also taking orders for their brand new t-shirts (please note, these will be printed and posted after Father’s Day), and gift vouchers are available, too. Visit their online shop here.

5. Mocha Mondo Coffee

Looking for a local coffee company to support your dad’s caffeine fix? Check out Mocha Mondo, based in Northumberland with a great range of coffee, chocolate, and gifts available. There’s free standard shipping on orders over £20 – check out the website here.

6. Build Your Own Local Heroes Box

Want to build your own hamper, packed with local food and drink? Check out the Local Heroes website, which has a wide range of products. Free delivery on Fridays within 5 miles of their HQ in NE4, or you can also click & collect. Visit the webshop here.

7. Records from Beyond Vinyl

Has your dad been hammering the record player during lockdown? Been joining in with Tim’s Twitter Listening Party? Then CDs or vinyl may be the way forward for his present, and Beyond Vinyl can definitely help – check out their online shop here.

8. Almasty Can Club Subscription

The beer gift that keeps on giving – check out the brand new Can Club from Almasty Brewing Co. Pre-order and get your dad a 3, 6, 9, or 12 month subscription here.

9. Oakwood Soaperie Gifts

How about some handcrafted soap, which is 100% palm oil free and 100% made in Northumberland? We’re big fans of Oakwood Soaperie, and we reckon your dad will be, too. Check out the online shop packed with soaps, beard oil, and more, here.

10. Pub in a Box from Twice Brewed

If your dad is missing the pub right now, check out the ‘at home’ version from Twice Brewed Brew House. You’ll get a 5 litre mini cask, plus glassware, snacks, and a quiz – buy online here.

11. Something different from RE

From grooming kits, to fish pen knives, and a whole host of weird and wonderful things in between, there’s something for everyone over on RE’s website – take a look here.

12. The Cook House Book

A fantastic book by Cook House owner Anna Hedworth. Please support independent bookstores and buy online via Hive here (instead of from that place beginning with an A which doesn’t need your money right now).

13. A Northumberland Breweries Beer Box

If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll see we’re big fans of this one from First & Last Brewery (it also made our Beer News here). Why support one local brewery when you can support loads in one go! If you’re outside of the delivery area, they’re also available via Local Heroes, or get in touch with First & Last Brewery and they may be able to deliver to you on their way to drop beer off elsewhere in the region.

14. Mr. Wolf Spices

If your dad is a fan of flavour, check out Mr. Wolf’s great range of spices. The website has handy hints to help you discover the best blends to use with different dishes – check it out here.

15. Laneberg Wine

If your dad’s more of a wine fan than a beer one, head over to the Laneberg Wine website, where you’ll find bottles, case deals, and gift packs – our favourite is the ‘Fizz & Still pack’. Buy online here.

16. Parlour Made Cheese Set

The Parlour Made Cheese Box contains 4 different wedges of cheese from the County Durham company, plus pickle and crackers, and is a great gift idea for cheese fiends. Buy online here.

17. A Beer Kit from Durham Brewery

Durham Brewery has created a special ‘Dad’s Beer Kit’, featuring 2 bottles of limited edition Dad’s Best 5% ruby bitter, 2 bottles of Magus, 1 bottle of Cloister 4 premium bitter, a branded pint glass and keyring bottle opener, all in a presentation box. Buy online now here.

18. Meat Salt Smoke Charcuterie

How about some charcuterie and cured meats for your dad? The team at award-winning Block & Bottle is behind Meat Salt Smoke, which has free shipping on all orders over £25 (use code FLYINGPIGS and placed your order by 6am on Wednesdays for dispatch that week). Order via their online shop here.

19. Cacao Brew

As featured in ‘Vogue’s Hot List’ in the July edition, get some delicious small-batch, luxury organic brewing cacao delivered through your letterbox. Click here for the online shop.

20. Contact your local Bottle Shop

Wherever you live in the North East, you’re usually not too far from a great bottle shop (and many deliver across the region, too). Check out our Bottle Shops list, which is currently being updated so that you can find your nearest place to discover a fantastic range of beer, cider, and merch available as a great present for your dad.
